Four warm, woody and earthy sandalwood blends
It's earthy warmth and subtle sweetness are just one of its many enticing elements
Santal is by far the most well known signature scent found anywhere within the world of fashion.
Its exotic, intriguing and unforgettable character is recognized in almost every city in the world.
Inspired by the intent to alter the industry’s saturation with celebrity scents, its success lies in its indeterminant fragrant streams that murmur of a furtive whisper in the dark and far away realms long faded into time.
It is unique because it evokes a feeling of power and self assurance to its wearer and epitomizes the potency of scent association.
It is laden with many captivating facets, yet part of its standalone nature is the fact that it is both simple and complex at the same time.
It essence lies in its unique fusion of smoky, fragrant woods, floral elements, musky ambrox, ancient, earthy papyrus and potent spices, like resinous and slightly sweet cardamom.
It is complex and alluring, like the glow and warmth drifting from a crackling campfire in a dark forest.
The woodsy, smoky and elusive facets of Santal have reached an almost cult status for a number of reasons.
For one, its blend of iconic, elements is almost if not entirely impossible to replicate.
While its ingredients date back to the age of antiquity, the fragrance itself does not have a long and colorful past.
In fact, its launch dates back only to 2011 when it was produced and released by the Le Labo, brand, which is owned by Estee Lauder companies.
This original collection, which was jointly created by Fabrice Penot and Eddie Rosch, consisted of ten fragrances and one
sandalwood candle named Santal.
For whatever reason, it did not appeal to the public-at-large.
The entire stock of candles was later sold to the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City where it experienced great success.
In 2014, Le Labo transformed that candle scent into a “beauty-counter mainstay,” which they renamed Santal 33, a moniker derived from its 33 diverse ingredients.
Its triumph heralded a new trend in ambient scent marketing, and Santal became a symbol of sheer luxury and sophistication as well as a favorite among celebrities like Justin Bieber.
Over the years, it catapulted into a cult-type fragrance that was found in other products including:body lotions and laundry detergents.
According to Fabrice Penot: “We are lucky to have a few ‘cults’ in our collection…But Santal 33 is another level of success…. As a perfumer, you always secretly hope, but you never expect, such an impact. It happens once in a lifetime-if you are very, very lucky.”
In the words of John Demsey, executive group president of the Estée Lauder Companies” “Santal 33 is the iconic fragrance of an entire generation, male and female.”
Our original Santal, as well as our Santal Black Currant, Santal Lavender Sage and Santal White Tea diffuser oils all celebrate the earthy depth of sandalwood and essence of Santal.
